18 Months Old! September 28, 2009Print This Post

How did it happen? My baby isn’t a baby any more, she is a little girl. It crept up, slowly at first, and then all of the sudden – she is a little girl!!! And she has PERSONALITY to boot! I can’t believe she is a year and half already, it makes me a little sad, but I am SO proud of her at the same time. Everyday she seems to learn something new and wonderful. Even if I took pictures and videos of every moment of her life, I still feel them slipping like sand through my grasp. Here is a little taste of what my little girl is up to at 18 months.

  • Dancing Machine – if there is music around Kendal is dancing. She has this turn, stomp, clap, wave her arms/toys thing she does that just cracks us up. We keep trying to video it, but she does it best when the camera is not around.
  • Joker – what is funnier than Kendal? When Kendal knows she is being funny and tries to make us laugh. When she is in a good mood, she loves to act silly and she laughs just as hard as we do!
  • Talker – Kendal still isn’t much of a “talker.” While she babbles on all of the time, she hasn’t added many distinguishable words. However, any day now I expect an explosion. Recently, she has started saying “Mu,” “Mu,” which most defiantly means “muffin.” Hew new favoite breakfast food are Grammy’s homemade banana muffins! And if I don’t offer her one, she let’s me know that is what she wants!
  • Temper – ahhh they all warn about this one. Much to my dismay, Kendal has discovered temper-tantrums!  Oh yes, my sweet baby turns into a red, sweaty, screaming and flailing menace when she doesn’t get her way.
  • Sweet – when Kendal is happy, she is more than happy to spread the love. Kisses and hugs for all. When it is time to go, she blows kisses to everyone – even store clerks, which cracks everyone up.
  • BAGS – Kendal continues to develop a love for bags. She has commandeered several of my totes and fills them to the brim with toys and drag/carries them around the house. At any given time, if something is missing we check one of Kendal’s bags!
  • Friends – Kendal loves her stuffed animals, her little people and her Disney figurines. We bought her a set of Princess figurines when we went to Disney, and when she isn’t toting them around in a bag she lines them up next to her or in front of her – everyone in their place! She talks to them, tries to ride her plane/horse/zebra with them.
  • No more eating out – looks like we won’t be eating out much for a while. The same girl who used to sit quietly in her chair now has to be on the go. Restaurants are starting to become a nightmare.
  • Go-go girl – Kendal LOVES to go-go. Whenever it is time to go somewhere and I ask her if she wants to go, she will drop whatever she is doing, say “go-go” and head toward the door. (If her shoes are around, she will grab those on her way too!)
  • Sleepy Head – over the past month or so, Kendal has started to give up the morning nap. Ever since Daddy started leaving for work by 7:00 to get downtown, Kendal has been sleeping till 9 am!!! I love it – I have been sleeping in too! So, she gets up at 9 and has some milk while she watches cartoons with me in bed. Then she is up untill nap time 2-4ish and bed at 8! That’s my little girl, a good sleeper like momma!

Check up. Today we had Kendal’s 18-month check up, and everything is great. K is a little anemic (again), but not too much (10 something), so back to iron supplements. She is now 33 inches talk and weights 24.4 lbs, which puts her just under the 90% for height and 50% for weight. Kendal was not happy about being at the doctor today, and she would not cooperate for the hearing test they wanted to give her. but,she hears fine, so no biggie. Only 1 shot today – chicken pox. Seems like an odd vaccine, since we all remember getting chicken pox like a right of passage as a child, but now there is a vaccine…

All in all, Kendal is a happy, healthy, 18-month-old girl and she continues to light up our lives. Much more to come…

15 Months June 28, 2009Print This Post

Friday Kendal and I went in for her 15-month check up. Everything checked out. Dr Chung said she is doing everything he would expect her to, and there was no trace of her ear infection! I was relieved to hear that, although not surprised because she has been a MUCH happier girl this week. I have my sweet K back!!! Kendal is currently 31 3/4 inches tall and 22.2 lbs – that puts her still in the 90 percentile for height and leveling at the 40th for weight. K got two shots – MMR & DTaP – which didn’t make her happy. But I brought her bear blanket and she cheered up quick. We even ran into Deborah and Nathan (there for his 6 month) when we were checking out.

Kendal is all about walking these days, and she is getting more and more steady on those legs. She even bends them some now so she looks less like a robot. Some of her new things this month include:

1. When she is sleepy if you ask her if she wants to go to sleep, she signs sleep and then walk to her room and point to her bed!!! I LOVE THIS!

2. When she is hungry if you ask her if she wants to eat, she signs eat and goes to the refrigerator! (Same thing for Milk time.)

3. She has added “Hi” to her vocabulary. In the morning when Bobby brings her into the bed with me, she will turn her head to look at me and say, “Hi.”

4. No more baby food. Kendal has decided she is done with baby food and only wants to eat what Bobby and I am eating. She will still eat fruit in her morning cereal, but veggies and meat – no way! But now that she is healthy again she is good eater, as long as it is what we are eating!

5. Kendal can drink from a straw. She gets so excited when the liquid comes up the straw into her mouth. But since she still forgets to close her mouth when she pulls away, she still makes a mess.

6. Kendal’s new favorite way to eat is off a fork. She can’t get the food on there, but she sure can put it in her mouth and get the food off. When she had beans the other night, she kept handing me back the fork and I couldn’t get beans on the the fork fast enough for her!

7. Playing in the pool. Kendal and I have been trying to spend more time in the pool lately and she really likes playing with her buckets and such while standing on the top step of the pool.

8. Kendal has liked flap books for a while now, but I recently introduced her to the Your Baby Can Read flap books, and she loves them. She seems to know almost all of the words in the first book and will “read” it with you pointing to her own body parts. And she loves to read these books. She carries them around and peaks under the flaps. They are her current favorite books.

9. Back up and sit down. Kendal has taken to backing up and sitting down in someones lap – usually to read a book.

10. Kendal continues to wander from room to room collecting items in her hands and trading them for new ones in other rooms. She really likes to carry around her pink bucket and add treasures to the bucket (or Mickey plane).

And she continues to grow cuter by the moment!

1st Ear Infection… June 13, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: Dr. Appointments, General — jen @ 8:18 pm

So, it isn’t one of those firsts that I am excited to write about, but it seems to be a childhood rite of passage. Kendal started to come down with a cold last Sunday. We noticed the first signs of it before the Splash Park, but it really came on after her afternoon nap. That night, she had a 100.3 fever and the nose really started to run. By Monday, the fever had broken, but the nose was like a leaky faucet. Tuesday, her nose was really stuffy and she sounded super congested, so we borrowed a humidifier from Jane. Wednesday, I went to work and she hung out with Mimi – she seemed to be on the mend. Thursday, the fever came back, and the day was filled with a crying pitiful baby. When she still had a 100 degree fever when she woke up Friday morning, it was time to visit the doctor.

I was sad when the doc confirmed my suppositions, she did in fact have an infection – an ear infection. Poor K. So, she started her first dose of antibiotics – Amoxacillin. We picked the pick liquid up from Public and started her 1st dose that afternoon. After her second dose, just before bed, she was already a new baby. Our Kendal was back, laughing and being silly. Amazing stuff that antibiotics.

Today, she has been better. But she isn’t yet 100%, but this is the best she’s been in a week. At least she likes the antibiotics, so she takes them without fuss! I hope she is all better soon!!!!

9 Month Check Up December 23, 2008Print This Post

Filed under: Dr. Appointments, General — jen @ 4:15 pm

Yikes – Kendal is 9 months old!!!! Since I wasn’t feeling well (again) Mom came over to go with me to take Kendal to her check up. The doctor says she looks great. She weights 19 lbs 13 oz and is 29 inches long, putting her in the 75th and 90th percentiles respectively. Kendal is a little low on her iron count (so was her friend Morgan) so I have to give her iron supplements for a month and go back to recheck her. (I am sure she will love them!) She only had to have 1 shot today, and she did well. Next check up is 1-year!!!

6 month check up September 27, 2008Print This Post

Kendal had her six-month check up on Thursday, and everything checked out great! Kendal now weighs 18 lbs, 27 3/4 inches tall and her head is 17 3/4 inches around.  All of her measurements put her in the 90th percentile and up! I can’t believe how much she has grown in six months, she has put on 10 lbs 8 oz!!!

Kendal also got her six-month shots today and a flu shot – she was NOT happy about the shots, but I think she might have cried more during the exam then after the shots! It was like she knew what was coming!

4-Month Checkup and Shots July 25, 2008Print This Post

After playdate, Kendal had time for a quick nap, and then it was off to the doctor for her 4-month checkup and shots. The checkup went fine. Kendal has not had any more problems since last week, and she seems totally healthy. She currently weights 15 lbs 4 oz and is 26 inches long! She is in the 90% for height and 75-90th for weight. She got all of her shots at this check up. We decided not to break them up this time, as expected she screamed. All in all it was a good check up.

SHOTS!!! May 19, 2008Print This Post

Poor Kendal – today was her 2-month appointment and the first of her shots! Bobby and I decided we wanted to spread her shots out a bit and not use the traditional schedule. The doctor and nurses looked at us like we each had 2 heads wanting to spread them out, and they made us feel like “those crazy parents.” But in the end we stuck to our decision to spread out the shots. Instead of 5 shots and an oral vaccination, Kendal had 3 shots todya and she will have the other 2 with the oral in 2 weeks.

Kendal’s Stats – Kendal currently weights 12 lbs 10 oz and is 23.5 inches long. This puts her in the 95th and 97th percentile. The doctor says everything looks great, and she is hitting all of her milestones.

Check out the before and after shots photos… sad Baby!

2 Week Doctor Appointment April 2, 2008Print This Post

Jen and I took Kendal for her 2-week checkup this afternoon, and I’m happy to report she is a very healthy girl.  She now weighs 8.7 lbs (up from 7.3 lbs at her first visit) and grew 0.5″ to 21″ in length.  Both her weight and height put her in the 75th percentile, and her head size is in the 50th percentile.  The doctor said she is nicely proportioned, and looks like she may be a tall girl.
