Animal Kingdom November 30, 2009Print This Post

The holidays are my favorite time for Disney, so we headed out to Animal Kingdom. Bobby and I went several years ago with my family, but Kendal hadn’t been. As much as she loves animals – and talking about them – we were excited to take her.

We had a good time at Animal Kingdom, but I don’t think we will be back any time soon. It wasn’t spectacular, and not really Kendal’s speed. The first thing we did was A Bug’s Life, which scared her… And unfortunately, the animal ride went so fast she couldn’t really see the animals. So, while we had fun, her favorite parts could have been found in another Disney park or a petting zoo. Oh well! Mommy still had fun!

While Mommy decorated the house for Christmas, Kendal surrounded herself with all of the stuffed decorations!

Black Friday November 28, 2009Print This Post

I have never been Black Friday shopping – we are always at The Ranch. Since we didn’t go to The Ranch the day after Thanksgiving this year, we were all about Black Friday shopping!

The “shopping holiday” started on Thanksgiving when Bobby headed out just before 11pm to wait in line at Toys R Us for the doors to open at midnight. You see, the Playhouse Mimi and Papa Jack were getting for Kendal was $60 off!!! So, Bobby was a good husband and went to wait in line behind 400 people who got there before him!!! In the end he got the Playhouse no problem.

The next day, we headed out on our shopping adventure at about 10 am. We hit Target first and then off to the mall. I was really hoping to see some Black Friday madness, but alas everyone was calm. LOL. I am happy to report that we did get some GREAT deals though and pretty much finished my Christmas shopping – at least for all the kids!

Kendal really got into the shopping spirit when we got to the new H&M store. They had some great tunes playing and there was no one in the kids section so she rocked out. In case you are wondering, the purse came home with us!

Thanksgiving at The Ranch November 27, 2009Print This Post

Every year, I feel a little more blessed to have Thanksgiving at The Ranch because every year, I know it could be the last year. My Aunt’s family has been talking about selling The Ranch for years, but once again we were able to spend Thanksgiving at The Ranch in 2009.

It seemed to be a quieter Thanksgiving this year, and we only went up for Thanksgiving Day (not back on Friday like we have done in the past). I was a little sad to leave on Thanksgiving, knowing that we wouldn’t be back the next day, but we had a great time while we were there.

The weather stormed like crazy the night before, but cleared up for a perfect and cool Thanksgiving. Surrounded by family and more food then we could eat, it was a happy Thanksgiving for all.

Kendal was all about exploring the world around her. All she wanted to do was “walk walk walk.” The horses spent most of the day by the fence, and Kendal spent most of the day checking them out. She didn’t want to get too close, but just close enough to talk to them.

O-K November 25, 2009Print This Post

I LOVE Kendal’s newest word – O-K. Out of the blue OK came out of her mouth one day and it is now her word of choice for yes. “Do you want to…?” O-K. And she says it very clearly with a pause between the O-K. This is my favorite word to date! It is the sweetest sound I have ever heard.

Animal Sounds Print This Post

One of Kendal’s favorite “games” is to tell us what sounds the animals make. She has gotten quite good and continues to add animals to her list of sounds. When we ask her, “What does the XYZ say?” She promptly replies with the correct answer. Here are the animal sounds she knows:

  • Dog – Panting
  • Monkey – Heeee
  • Cow – MMMMMM
  • Horse – NNNNN
  • Lion/Tiger – Roar-roar
  • Cat – Eow
  • Bird = Tweet-tweet
  • Snake – SSSSS
  • Owl  – Oooo – Oooo

Kendal’s vocabulary continues to expand weekly (almost daily) at this point. It is so much fun to hear her talk! Her “words” are still very difficult to understand – not like Sophie who clearly repeats every word. I am sure no one else can understand most of her words like Bobby and I can, but she is defiantly making great strides. And she has the sweetest little voice.

At this point, she can say almost all of the words in her First Words set of flash cards. She has been playing with these for months and she continues to love to

Here are some of her more recent words (that I can think of):

  • T – Tree (especially in reference to the Christmas tree Bobby set up early for me so I could enjoy the lights while I was sick, but she loves to point out all trees)
  • Weeeee – as we drive on a circular on ramp
  • Ni-ni – Night-night
  • Ca – Car

She is really starting to parrot too. Sometimes when we say something to her she will reply with what sounds like a version of what we just said. These words don’t seem to be added to her vocabulary, but she defiantly tries to make the sounds.

16 Teeth November 24, 2009Print This Post

Kendal has been cutting all 4 eye teeth at once. In fact, when we went to the Dr for the last cold, the doctor was surprised at how swollen all of her gums were. Cutting all of those teeth at once has meant that her hands are constantly in her mouth and she is back to chewing on everything she can get into her mouth. (Which has resulted in back-to-back-to-back colds for both Kendal and I.) Finally in the last couple of weeks the teeth have broken through one by one. First her upper left, then upper right, followed by lower left. The lower right has still to break the surface, but it is only a matter of days.

Even though they have broken the surface, they still continue to bother her. Teeth brushing has become quite difficult again and her little eye teeth buds bleed a bit each time I brush, so I am sure they hurt.

Once that last I tooth breaks through, she will officially have all 16 teeth. Hopefully that will be it for a while. Judging from the size of her mouth, I expect her two-year-old molars to be late like all of her other teeth have been. I hope this will also bring us a break from being sick!

Kendal Eats with a Spoon November 15, 2009Print This Post

Kendal’s I-can-do-it-myself attitude recently began effecting her eating. She wants to do it all herself, so we have been working on eating with a spoon. It is still a bit messy… but she is getting better. Sometimes she will let me put it on the spoon for her and help guide her, but mostly she just wants to do it herself = MESSY!
