17 Month Chair Pictures August 29, 2009Print This Post

It has become increasingly harder to take these chair photos.  Not because Kendal does not love her chair, she does.  It’s getting Kendal to sit in her chair when “you” want her to is the tough part.  We did attempt to take them today, but she was more interested in just “doing” one thing after another in her room. We did manage to get a couple only when she was distracted with the phone (one of her favorite things to play with) and one of her books.

Stay at Home Daddy August 26, 2009Print This Post

Since we were without Mimi today (on her way to LA), Daddy stayed home with Kendal today so I could go to work. Apparently, Daddy taught Kendal a few new tricks while Mommy was away. I got the following email at 9:07 am.

“So we are sitting in her room and I’m asking her if she wants to take a nap. She says no, of course, and points to the radio. I tell her no, so she goes over and hits the play button perfectly herself and starts the music. She smiles and me and laughs.”

Ahhh yes. In one day away, Kendal learns how to turn on and pause her CD player so she can now listen to her music any time she wants! (She really likes to pause and un-pause it too.)

As if that were not enough, Kendal seems to have developed her own sign for music. She shakes her little shoulders and does a little wiggle then points to her CD player. Yep, Kendal has a new sign! (I wonder what the ASL sign for music really is?)

17 months old! August 24, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 3:15 pm

Another month has passed. Bobby and I are both starting to be a little wistful about our baby not being a baby anymore. He announced to me the other day, “She will be a year and a half next month! How did that happen?”

But I have to admit she is becoming more fun everyday too. She is such a little ham and she loves to do things she thinks are funny! She makes herself laugh – it is too cute! So, here is what Kendal is “up to” at 17 months old.

  1. Kendal continues to LOVE her kitchen. At any given time there pots, pans, utensils and food trailed throughout the house. She is really starting to “pretend” with the food and stirring. Although she continues to use utensils backward, she insists on using them herself.
  2. There are major independent streaks coming alive. While she continues to be an excellent eater when she wants to be, eating any and everything. The very next meal, she will decide she doesn’t want anything I give her. She wants some mysterious something else…
  3. Her 2nd mole appeared just after her first. This one is on her back — left shoulder blade.
  4. She loves the new Leap Frog Alphabet magnets I bought her. But currently her favorite thing to do is take them all off the fridge andput them in one of her bags to carry aroundthe house. She likes the idea of putting them in the little thing that sings, but she can’t quite get the shapes in it. She does, however, understand how to push the little blue button to make it sing the ABCs again and again!
  5. Kendal loves to play in her room, and always insists upon shutting the door. I recently broke out the CD we got at Kindermusik and it is her current favorite thing in her room. She loves to listen to her CD and dance around the room.
  6. Kendal still isn’t much of a talker. She has a few words she says that we understand, but the rest of the time she is content to babble in her own language. She continues to be very communicative with her sign language, however, and always manages to get her point across even without “words.” She says, “Up,” “Go,”"Wow,” “Yeay”  ”Hi,” “Dada” and “Moma.” Although “Moma” still seems to be mostly reserved for milk…
  7. I can’t decided if it is a glimpse of freedom or shear torture, but Kendal is starting to give up the morning nap. In other words, she will just lay or play in there for an hour or so, but won’t sleep. But making it until 2 is torture. Some days, she still does both, but it is more and more resting in the morning and napping in the afternoon. I hope this will turn her afternoon nap into a nice block of time for Mommy to work!
  8. Kendal is cautious (to use Coby’s description) about everything new. She takes her time to warm up to new people and new things, and I am slowly learning not to push it. We are both happier when I let her do things at her speed…
  9. While Kendal can get sucked into anything on TV, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is still #1!!!
  10. We are looking forward to our impending trip to Disney (AKA – my birthday present)! I can’t wait.
  11. And I am already trying to figure out what Kendal will be for Halloween – open to suggestions! I want to make the costume… so nothing too crazy!

That’s Kendal, in a nutshell, at 17 months old.

Dropping off the School Supplies August 19, 2009Print This Post

Kendal and I joined Amy & Ava and Katie and Sophie to take the MOMS club school supplies to English Estates. While the other moms were unloading supplies, I oversaw the girls playing in the classroom. By the time it was time to go, the girls did NOT want to leave. They had so much fun in school they wanted to keep playing! They built towers with blocks and enjoyed rocking in the giant rocking chair together.

Sea World August 16, 2009Print This Post

Since Grammy and Pop-pop had plans Saturday, we decided to take Jordan and Ethan to Sea World for the day. And since the missed visiting the Kent girls at the 4th of July this year, we invited the cousins to come along.

It was a HOT August day and there was a big crowd, but we had a lot of fun! Jana took Jilly, Jacy and Jordan on the roller coasters while we took Ethan and Kendal to do other fun things like feed the sea lions and watch the Seymour and Clyde show while they waited in the long lines!

As usual, Kendal was entranced by the animals, but since she is now so mobile she wanted to go everywhere by herself! She did manage to take about a 45 minute mid-afternoon nap though!

Last Friday, the LMMC had its August member meeting and back to school supply drive. Amy hosted it at her house, and as usual she was a gracious host and we all had a blast!

Tooth #11 August 10, 2009Print This Post

Grump-a-ptomus came to visit today. I knew something was up, and I knew there was a tooth close to popping through, so I guessed a tooth was on its way.  Mom was right. Kendal’s 11th tooth popped through today – front bottom right tooth.

I am going to miss her just having those bottom 2.

Field Trip to the Fire Station! August 6, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 3:00 pm

Today, Kendal and I joined the Lake Mary Moms Club on a field trip to the Lake Mary Fire Station. It was a great turn out, and the people at the station were very friendly and accommodating to all of the kids. We all had a great time.

The kids all really enjoyed the fire hats they were given and then they got to climb in and on the firetrucks! After the firetrucks, the kids got to squirt the fire hose into the pond below. We toured the fire station and learned about smoke alarm safety. One of the firemen even got dressed up in all of his gear to show the kids what he looked like.

Kendal really seemed to enjoy running around the firehouse with the rest of the kids, and was quite the little miss independent. After the fire station, several of us went up to the Seminole Town Center Mall food court for lunch. What a fun day!
