My project… June 30, 2009Print This Post

Bobby always teases me about all of my projects. I love to start new projects and often have several going at the same time – sometimes this seems to Bobby that I start things and don’t get to finishing them. But eventually, I get around to them. Here is one of my projects I finally finished earlier this month. The rocking chair was mine as a little girl, and I have been planning to make a cushion for it like I had to match my room. So, having never made one before, this was my first attempt. She seems to like it.

Being Silly Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 8:02 pm

Kendal was in a silly mood today, and every time I turned around she was doing something worth taking a picture. Luckily, I captured some of the moments.

The first is Kendal with her 4th of July hat from Mimi. She kept putting it on and taking it off. Finally, she put it on (low with her hair everywhere) and left it on while she played.

Next, she kept getting in her chair with all of the stuffed animals she could handle, so I decided to pile them all around her. She sat like this while I left the room to get the camera and for a long time after the pictures were taken.

Finally, she was glued to the TV and I had the news on, so I put on My Friends Tiger and Pooh. She just stood there – in a trance. I thought she might sit in her chair, so I brought in her chair and plopped her in it. She sat there while I did chores for the entire half hour watching the cartoon. At the end of the show, she fussed because she wanted more.

Dinner with the Bitmans & Wesleys June 28, 2009Print This Post

We hadn’t all been together in a while, so Deborah decided to have everyone over last night. It is funny because the first time I met the Wesleys was at Deborah’s house and Jacklyn and I were pregnant. Our group was 6 adults 1 child. Now, it is 6 adults 5 children!!!! I can’t believe how much has changed!

We had a great night as usual. We stood around eating pizza and watching the kids play. After the big kids all ate their dinner at Coby’s table, Kendal and Coby sat on the couch side by side watching Cars and eating dried pears. It was adorable. I think they sat like that for about 30 minutes – until Kendal ran out of pears.

As much as Kendal just likes to sit and play, Connor is all over the place! I think he wore Jacklyn out! We never saw Nathan because he was already sleeping when we arrived, but Gavin was around. The Wesley boys are so tiny – Kendal is much bigger than Connor, but Connor has big feet!!! (K wears a 3-4, Connor wears a 6!)

It was a fun night! Kendal crashed when we got home!

15 Months Print This Post

Filed under: Dr. Appointments, General — jen @ 3:32 pm

Friday Kendal and I went in for her 15-month check up. Everything checked out. Dr Chung said she is doing everything he would expect her to, and there was no trace of her ear infection! I was relieved to hear that, although not surprised because she has been a MUCH happier girl this week. I have my sweet K back!!! Kendal is currently 31 3/4 inches tall and 22.2 lbs – that puts her still in the 90 percentile for height and leveling at the 40th for weight. K got two shots – MMR & DTaP – which didn’t make her happy. But I brought her bear blanket and she cheered up quick. We even ran into Deborah and Nathan (there for his 6 month) when we were checking out.

Kendal is all about walking these days, and she is getting more and more steady on those legs. She even bends them some now so she looks less like a robot. Some of her new things this month include:

1. When she is sleepy if you ask her if she wants to go to sleep, she signs sleep and then walk to her room and point to her bed!!! I LOVE THIS!

2. When she is hungry if you ask her if she wants to eat, she signs eat and goes to the refrigerator! (Same thing for Milk time.)

3. She has added “Hi” to her vocabulary. In the morning when Bobby brings her into the bed with me, she will turn her head to look at me and say, “Hi.”

4. No more baby food. Kendal has decided she is done with baby food and only wants to eat what Bobby and I am eating. She will still eat fruit in her morning cereal, but veggies and meat – no way! But now that she is healthy again she is good eater, as long as it is what we are eating!

5. Kendal can drink from a straw. She gets so excited when the liquid comes up the straw into her mouth. But since she still forgets to close her mouth when she pulls away, she still makes a mess.

6. Kendal’s new favorite way to eat is off a fork. She can’t get the food on there, but she sure can put it in her mouth and get the food off. When she had beans the other night, she kept handing me back the fork and I couldn’t get beans on the the fork fast enough for her!

7. Playing in the pool. Kendal and I have been trying to spend more time in the pool lately and she really likes playing with her buckets and such while standing on the top step of the pool.

8. Kendal has liked flap books for a while now, but I recently introduced her to the Your Baby Can Read flap books, and she loves them. She seems to know almost all of the words in the first book and will “read” it with you pointing to her own body parts. And she loves to read these books. She carries them around and peaks under the flaps. They are her current favorite books.

9. Back up and sit down. Kendal has taken to backing up and sitting down in someones lap – usually to read a book.

10. Kendal continues to wander from room to room collecting items in her hands and trading them for new ones in other rooms. She really likes to carry around her pink bucket and add treasures to the bucket (or Mickey plane).

And she continues to grow cuter by the moment!

Hives June 20, 2009Print This Post

Yesterday at the pool party, I noticed Kendal’s back was covered in little red spots. By the time she woke up from her nap, they spread to her arms and tummy. So, I called the Dr to ask if it could be a  reaction to her antibiotics – even though she had been on them 7 days. I was told it could definitely be the antibiotics, to stop giving them to her immediately and come back in 2 weeks to have her ears rechecked.

I hate to say that’s it – she is allergic to penicillin (she was on amoxicillin) because it is possible the rash is something else. But obviously, if it is the antibiotics, I don’t want to give them to her again and risk a worse reaction. Allergies are such a fickle thing – it is so hard to pin point what a reaction is to sometimes! With her eczema already, I am not even sure if the red bumps on her legs are hives or new eczema patches!

This morning when she woke up, she looked better. There didn’t appear to be as many red dots and her knees looked less red too. But as the day progressed, the spots reappeared in full force. They aren’t really bad on her back and tummy any more, but her legs and arms look really bad. Tonight, I think she even has little red spots on her face too. So, now I really don’t know. It could still be the antibiotics and taking sometime for the build up of the antibiotics in her system to dissipate, or it really could be something else she is allergic to. I am hoping that by tomorrow they will be better, but right now I am just frustrated.

In addition to the hives, she is continuing to suddenly be difficult to feed. Over the past few weeks, she has gone from eating almost all baby food with samples of everything Bobby and I eat to almost no baby food and very little anything else. I know part of it is that she was sick, then an ear infection, now probably the hives are affecting things. But it is starting to make me a little crazy, and I am so worried that she is a) not eating enough good-for-you stuff and b) will become one of those toddlers that is impossible to feed permanently.

Go away little red bumps, and feel better little Kendal.

Pool Party! Print This Post

Yesterday, we went to Amy & Ava’s house for a Magnolia Mom’s group pool party. We had so much fun with our friends, and Ms Amy really out did herself with lots of yummy food!!! We spent most of the day at the Volcko’s house, playing with Ava’s toys and hanging out in the pool. All the babies are getting so big! Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to take a single picture! I did get a short video of Eva & Kendal checking out the cat. Jane asked the girls what the cat says, and Kendal said Quack Quack… (We have been working on what the duck says for several days.)  It was the perfect way to spend a summer day.

Tooth #8 June 18, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 3:52 pm

Kendal’s first molar is almost all of the way in, and yesterday #8 broke through the surface (upper left molar). Poor girl, she doesn’t see to be able to catch a break! Mom called while I was at work, and Kendal was hysterical. Poor thing was miserable, and I forgot to pack the Tylenol. So, I had to run by CVS to take Tylenol and baby Orajel to her. By the time I got there, K was all curled up on Mimi’s lap with her paci and blanket, head on Mimi watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

She seemed better when we got back from work, but later that even as the Tylenol wore off, she was most unhappy again. Today, same baby. Lots of tears. I hope the mean tooth comes through and stops bothering her soon. Ahhhh, I hear her waking now…

I Still Fit! June 16, 2009Print This Post

While we were fixing up the Playroom, I moved Kendal’s bouncer to the side so we could work. Once Kendal discovered it sitting there, she wanted in! She really liked sitting there watching the “water.” Look how much she has changed since she was sitting in it a year ago.

Goodbye “Formal Living Room,” Hello “Playroom” Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 3:09 pm

Who actually uses a formal living room? Not us! So, we have been talking about converting the space into a playroom for Kendal since before she was born. When we found an awesome deal on a table and chairs for her at Costco this weekend, we decided it was time for a change. So, we put the coffee table and end tables (that Bobby has had since before we were married) on Craigslist and a guy came to pick them up the next day. (I LOVE Craigslist.)

After everything was carted off, Bobby and I set to rearranging things. In about an hour we rearranged the furniture and art work to create a really nice space to play. It is amazing how different the room looks by just moving things around. We are both VERY pleased with how nice it is. The only thing is that I was a little mad at myself I didn’t take any pictures before we got rid of the stuff and moved everything. I have nice pics of the after, but I don’t think I have any pictures of the before and it is has been the before for 4 1/2 years!!! Oh well!
