Over the past few days Kendal moved from doing the same old cruising to some real progress toward walking. On Friday morning, I was able to get her to “walk” with me holding one hand for the first time. She continued to do more and more of this over the weekend.

When we went to SeaWorld on Tuesday, we practiced more walking while holding my hand and she was so pleased with herself she was giggling!

After Bobby got home Tuesday night, I left the house for 5 minutes to pick something up from a neighbor and when I got back, Kendal had taken her first steps!!!  Bobby said that she just turned toward him after playing with toy and took a couple of steps. Of course, when I came home I had to see for myself, and sure enough she was happy to show me.

Since yesterday, she has been doing it more and more, and she is so excited to take steps on her own! (This morning, she took some steps from me to the TV to watch Mickey Mouse!)

As of today, she is still very wobbly -- just a few hesitant steps and back to crawling or on her butt -- but full-on walking is just days away… Bye bye baby -- hello toddler on the move!

SeaWorld with Ava & Leif Print This Post

On Tuesday, Kendal and I hosted a play group at SeaWorld. Amy & Ava and Ingrid & Leif joined us for a day of play. We had such a great time!

It is so amazing to watch the babies taking in everything around them – they were so fascinated by all of the animals and the sites. This time, Kendal’s favorite thing we did was tied between the underwater viewing of the dolphins – I think she could have watched them all day, and the splash area – she loves to touch the water! We were having so much fun we lost track of time and it was 3 pm before we headed home – Kendal was beside herself tired. We will definitely have to go with them again – it was a fantastic day!

Memorial Day Weekend Print This Post

Filed under: General, Videos — bob @ 11:52 am

We headed over to Pass-A-Grille on Thursday night.  Friday was our 5th Anniversary, so we spent a quiet day before Jack, Linda, Lindsay and Bryan arrived Friday night.

The weather was still not great, so Saturday we went over to Channel Side in Tampa for lunch and to the Florida Aquarium.  Kendal seemed to enjoy it very much.  Saturday night, Jack and Linda took us all to dinner to celebrate our anniversaries (Lindsay and Bryan’s 2nd is on the 27th).

Sunday the weather finally cleared, so we headed out for lunch and some relaxing on the beach.  Mimi brought down some toys and buckets, and Kendal enjoyed playing with them in the sand.  Great-grandmother Dorthy came over for a few hours to spend some time with Kendal.  She was definitely worn out by the end of the day.

We headed back home Monday afternoon.  It was another great weekend in Pass-A-Grille.  Even though it was a long weekend, they always seem to go by too fast.

14 Months Old May 22, 2009Print This Post

Kendal’s skills continue to increase at a rapid pace now, and we are constantly amazed at all of the ‘”new” things she is learning to do. While she isn’t walking yet, her standing is getting more and more solid. She can now push up to a standing position almost from the floor – she still needs a small assistance from a toy or my leg or whatever is close. She continues to not just stand, but dance when she stands. Today at music class, she was really in to one song and she keep standing to dance, but then she would look around at the people around her and fall on her bottom. But then she was right back up to dancing.

In the last month, Kendal has learned to “talk” on the phone. We have showed her how to pretend talk – holding the phone to her ear for her for months, now she does it herself. She even “answers” the phone and “talks” to whoever is on the other end. From across the room I will here “Ehh…. Ehh,” and I know when I look over she will have one of her phones pressed up to her ear (usually backward). It is always the same – very distinct sound when she is on the phone “Eh” sometimes she babbles after that, but always “Eh” when she picks it up. Today, I was talking on my Blackberry while I was feeding her, and at the end of my call I realized she had her hand to her ear like there was a phone and she was saying “Eh.” Look out – Kendal is going to be a phone girl…

Let’s see what else…
• She can roll a ball back and forth – as long as she is interested
• She can climb on and off her bouncy zebra at will
• Still working on puzzles, she loves taking the pieces out and she is starting to understand they go back but she just drops them on top
• Everything is “Wow”
• Her comprehension of sign language continues – while she hasn’t added any new signs that she does on a consistent basis she definitely uses the ones she has with purpose
o More – also seems to be want
      o All done
o Shaking head – some yes some no
      o Eat
      o Up
• She dances and “jumps” on command
• While she is still eating some baby food – it’s so easy and I think she eats better when it is baby food. She eats pretty much everything I give her from the table, but if it is too big (or the rare time she doesn’t like it) she plainly lets me know.
• She points to everything – its her favorite game to point and have me take her to see whatever it is
• While her language is still babbles and noises, she has distinct sounds for certain things, and she is definitely purposely communicating with us more
• We are working on body parts (where is your…) she is really good at head & toes, but lots of other things get head for an answer too…
• She continues to love Mickey & Minnie – they are by far her favorite everything – stuffed toy, TV show, everything she just lights up when it comes to the Mouse!
• She gives hugs and kisses when asked, and she loves to put her head on your shoulder and snuggle or lay down and snuggle – it melts my heart everytime!

Big girl… and there is so much more to come!

Kendal Is An ISR Floating Grad! May 19, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 8:06 pm

Today was officially Kendal’s last day of swim lessons, she is officially a floater! If she accidentally fell in the pool tomorrow, I am confident she could float long enough for me to retrieve her (since her screaming would quickly alert me). It really is something to watch her pop up out of the water like a cork over and over as Kelly dunks her in the pool face first, upside down, backward, etc.

Yesterday, was winter clothes day. Unfortunately, I forgot the camera so all I have is cell phone pics. Today, I had the camera, but I forgot to take any pictures! Oh well…

Music Class May 14, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 9:50 pm

I signed Kendal and I up for a music class at Kindermusic with Jan & Eva, Amy & Eva and Katie & Sophie, and today was our second class (of 5). I was super excited to take this ”class” with our friends because I was really looking forward to seeing the girls interact, and, of course, Kendal loves music. The problem is that the class is at 3 pm (on Thursdays), which means I have to wake Kendal up from a short nap to get to class. For the first two classes she has been very clingy and not really interacted with the girls. She has moments where she seems to like it, but she won’t let go of me and keeps burring her head in my shoulder…

Next week we will be done with swim lessons, so I hope that will allow some more free time so hopefully we can get more of a nap in before music class. I really hope that makes a difference, because I am starting to think Kendal might be shy. While being shy wouldn’t be the worst thing, I am afraid she might miss out on things if she becomes shy. So, here is hoping it is just the nap thing and that she will enjoy the other classes more.

Swimming With Clothes On! Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 5:34 pm

At the end of ISR swim lessons, Kendal has to swim with her clothes on to simulate falling in the pool (since most people who fall in the pool aren’t wearing a bathing suit and swim diaper!). The first test is summer clothes with a fireguard diaper. Kendal sailed through this “challenge” with ease. Even though her diaper weight a ton soaked though, she flipped around and popped up like a cork. Next is winter clothes!

Mother’s Day At SeaWorld May 10, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 9:56 pm

I decided that I wanted to go to SeaWorld for Mother’s Day this year (since we have passes anyway), so that’s what we did. Before we headed out, Kendal and Daddy gave me a jewelry tree – it really is a tree – to  hold my necklaces. It is very pretty!

A new coaster – Manta – just opened at SeaWorld, and there was a AAA deal that got us a free pass to go directly to the front of the line. We were exciting to check out this new coaster that you ride by basically laying on your tummy like you are flying – so that was the very first thing we did. Bobby and I took turns, but we were each able to ride in the front row – it was so cool! Not too crazy (it didn’t bother the vertigo) but very cool!

I think Kendal’s favorite part of the day was the shark exhibit. She kept pointing to all of the fish and sharks around her saying, “Wow.” She also seemed to like the sea lions, but she was so into those fish!

Because they forgot to punch my ride pass, I was able to sneak onto Manta a second time. This time, I rode in the very back row. A totally different, much wilder ride!

After 4 hours, we were done for the day. It was 96 degrees out and Kendal had not napped at all yet! So, we headed home to veg out for the rest of the day. It was a Great Mother’s Day with my family!

She is a Cork!!! May 9, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 5:17 pm

After last week’s swimming regression, I was hopeful for this week but didn’t really know what to expect. Well, from the moment she touched the water on Monday, my little cork was back. She was popping right up and flipping right over as if she had always been doing it! I was very happy to see her back to “normal” because she was also happier about the whole thing too!

Since we lost a week, we are going to continue 1 more week. But after next week (week 5) she should be all done!

Taco Tuesday May 5, 2009Print This Post

Filed under: General — bob @ 4:23 pm

For the past two Tuesdays, we have had Tacos.  This has quickly become one of Kendal’s favorite meals as you can see from the photos.  Last night she had taco meat, cheese, rice, and beans.  She eats great, but needs a thorough scrubbing afterwards.
