Moooooooo March 15, 2009Print This Post

In the beginning, I wasn’t sure I would make it a month. In fact, at about 6 weeks, even the doctor said I might have to give up – due to multiple infections. Breastfeeding is one of the hardest things I ever had to learn to do. Now, Kendal is 6 days from being 1, and I am still breastfeeding. An accomplishment if I do say so myself.

People have asked me all along the way how long I planned to breastfeed her, and I never set a timetable. I just decided I would continue to do it until it didn’t make sense any more for us. As I have gotten closer to that 1 year mark, I have started to become nervous about weaning. Would it be hard for her, would she like cow’s milk, would it be hard for me? After all, there are always the horror stories…

Even at 10 months old, Kendal was still nursing 5 times a day. But suddenly, she started to wean herself, and now she is down to only 3 times a day. Friday, I started the process; I added cow’s milk to Kendal’s cereal and fruit breakfast. She didn’t even flinch! My good eater!

Today, I took the plunge. Instead of nursing her before her afternoon nap, I gave her a sippy cup of cow’s milk (about 4 oz). She drank it all down like a champ! (Oh yeah – we retired bottles about a month ago. They are all packed away, just sippy cups for K!) Kendal has no problem with cow’s milk.

So, as Bobby asked me tonight, “When will she just get cow’s milk and no more nursing?” For now, I think eliminating the mid-day feeding works for us. The rest, well, we will just keep up the other 2 for now… as long as it makes sense for us.

They are coming in left and right now… Tooth #5 just poked through. Kendal now has this cute grin with a crocked mouth of teeth. She has the 2 bottom middle; the top, right lateral; the top, right middle; and now the top, left middle. The top left, lateral will be along soon!

Morgan Comes to Play March 11, 2009Print This Post

Lori & RJ had a wedding they had to go to on Sunday, so we got to keep Morgan for the day. We had so much fun, I hope they have more weddings soon!

I can’t believe how much the girls have changed over the last year. They are really interacting now, although the biggest interaction was Kendal stealing everything Morgan touched… but they seemed to enjoy each other.

We played in the ball pit, and then the girls took naps. We put Morgan down in the pack in play in the back bathroom (because the back bedroom is currently a disaster), and I put the pack in play too close to the counter. Once Morgan paused her nap-time fussing, I heard a familiar sound… rippppp. Sure enough Morgan had pulled all of the magazines on the counter into the pack in play! She looked so proud!

After nap time, we tried to do a little photo shoot with the girls, but Morgan seemed to be a bit afraid of Bobby. Later in the day, she warmed up, but at first she screamed!

We discovered that Kendal is a toy thief! Everything Morgan touched or showed interest in, Kendal lunged for. Luckily, Morgan likes to “share,” otherwise we might have had some major meltdowns.

Morgan points to everything now, and she is starting to try to stand on her own. I predict she will be walking soon. Look out world!

They were both very good girls, and we can’t wait until Lori & RJ need a sitter again!

Toy Basket March 10, 2009Print This Post

We keep Kendal’s small toys corralled in a basket on the floor, and she LOVES to pull them out and put them back into the basket. The other night, she found a new way to enjoy her basket of toys – in the basket!

Happy Birthday Brock March 7, 2009Print This Post

Brock Nanton is 4 years old! My how time flies!

In true Nanton fashion, Brock’s birthday party was sports themed, and they asked everyone to wear their favorite team colors. So, Kendal donned her favorite Gator dress, and we headed out.

No Nanton party would be complete with out a bounce house! But the Nanton’s stepped it up adding a giant inflatable slide, a snow cone machine and a cotton candy machine – not to mention toys galore in the playroom, of course!

Bet Kendal’s favorite thing – Brock’s new Escalade complete with a real working radio! Guess we will be getting a motorized car in a few years!

Kendal Helping… March 6, 2009Print This Post

Laundry – I don’t know how one small family like mine can make SO much dirty laundry, but we always have overflowing amounts of laundry. The other day, I was putting away laundry in Kendal’s room and I turned to hang something in the closet, when I turned back around this is what I saw… (I ran to get a camera to capture the moment, and she continued about her business… helping Mommy with the laundry. Too bad I just finished putting everything in that drawer… Thanks Kendal!)
