Inevitably when people ask me what Kendal is up to, I am at a loss. She is “up to” so much, it is hard to think about a specific new thing someone would be interested in hearing about. So, I say the usual sleeping well, eating veggies and fruit, sitting up and becoming more interactive. But the truth is so much more. So, here are some observations about our 7-month-old little girl and what she is “up to.”
Kendal is more interested in learning about and observing the world around her everyday. She is a very content to entertain herself playing quietly on the floor or jumping in her jumper. She loves to sit and play with toys; she picks them up, puts them in her mouth, shakes them or beats them against another toy, and then she grabs another toy. Everything is fair game, and she loves to rip the pages off Mommy’s catalogs. She turns the toys over in her hands over and over inspecting them from every angle, and I can almost see her mind working as she inspects them. She is very smart and has recently expanded her reach for toys and has progressed to lunging forward. This results in her laying on her tummy, and she is happy for a while until she fusses to be set back upright. I believe crawling will happen sooner rather than later. The other day she even realized she could lean over the edge of her little chair to pick up toys she drops.
Kendal has also started to really look for things and crane her neck to see better. Whether it is in a game of peek-a-boo or watching the doggies walk through the room she cranes her neck to get a better look.
The strawberry marks on her face are continuing to fade, and I am confident they will eventually completely fade away.
Her hair continues to get longer, ticker and blonder, and her once bald spot is now covered in a thick layer of blonde fuzz. As her hair is getting longer, it is increasingly in her eyes so I have taken to keeping her in bows most of the time. And, for fun, I have started making her bows to match all of her outfits! Mimi keeps threatening to cut her hair, but I want it to grow out now rather than later.
Kendal is an excellent sleeper, just like her Mommy. And with the exception of her being sick this week, she typically sleeps about 12 hours a night plus an hour morning nap and a 2 hour afternoon nap. Except at Mimi’s house where she has decided she can do anything she wants…
We continue to add fruits and veggies to her repitore of foods, and so far peas are the only thing she doesn’t care for. She eats sweet potatos, carrots, apples, pears and prunes, but her favotire food is bananas – just like Daddy! She looks like a little bird when she eats bananas – with a wide open mouth begging for more. She even had her first stage 2 baby food the other day, it was bananas, peaches and oatmeal. yum yum I think we may branch out to start some small finger foods very soon. I also plan to introduce the sippy cup this week…
Kendal is very interested in books these days, she loves to “help” turn the pages and look at the pictures.
I am not sure if this is a sign that Kendal will be easy to potty train, but I keep telling myself it is. We have dubbed the exer-sauser the poop-sauser. Without fail, everytime we put Kendal in the exer-sauser, she poops! It has gotten to the point that if she hasn’t pooped for the day yet, we will put her in the sauser to poop. It only takes a minute or two before we can smell success. The bad news is that it often results in a poop mess – like the picture from a few days ago, but the good news is it keeps her pooping! It’s really weird!
Kendal is definatly a pacifer baby. I try to limit the paci use and only offer it when she is fussy. But she can hold that paci in her mouth for hours and if she still has it in her mouth when she wakes, it is hard to get her to give it up. Oh well, it makes happy. She also still loves her little bear blanket and sleeps with it all of the time. I love to watch her on the monitor inspect the bear and rub it on her face.
Just like Mommy and Daddy, Kendal loves to watch TV and becomes transfixed. We recently bought her the entire Baby Einstiens collection, and I have taken to recording Mickey’s Club House in the mornings for her. Often when she watches TV, she will rest her head on a nearby pillow.
