Tropical Storm Fay August 23, 2008

All week the attention was focused on Tropical Storm Fay as she slowly moved arcoss the state and dumped LOTS of rain. Mostly the storm was a media circus that hyped the storm to more than it was, they even closed school 3 days this week! Thursday was the “worst” of it, and we did get about 10 inches of rain at the house. Over by the coast, the got about 24 inches of water and major flooding. But other than some random branches and minor flooding, Kendal and I were just trapped in the house.

We have been putting Kendal in her bouncer for a while now, but she never really enjoyed it before and would usually want out of it after a few minutes.  She has just recently started to enjoy her time in it, and has gotten “jumping” down pretty well. The funny thing is that she likes to jump mainly on one leg right right now so she tends to look like she is at a “hoe down” with the other.

Kendal Sleeps in the Nursery August 21, 2008

Since Kendal was born, she has slept in the pack n play set up in our room. It was much more convient to have her near us, and it also made me feel better about her safety.  Lately, we have been waking Kendal up at night as we got ready for bed. So, on Tuesday night we decided it was time to move her into the nursery.

She made the transition without any trouble because she was used to sleeping in her bed for nap time anyway. But I was really sad because she is getting so big. It was sad to admit she really doesn’t need to be so close to us any more.

Part of the reason I put off moving her was that she was still waking 2-3 times in the night for her pacifier, and her room is across the house. But amazingly, on her second night of sleeping in the nursery she slept through the night. She didnt make a peep until 6 am. What a good sleeper!!!

First Family Dinner at the New House August 20, 2008

Tonight we had our first family dinner at Mimi and Papa Jack’s new house.  Everything came out beautiful and it was good to be back there.

Kendal Sits all by herself… for a moment…

Kendal has been practicing sitting, and she really only needs a tiny bit of support. So, I have been pulling the support away for little bits at a time, and for a few seconds she can sit by herself. She really likes when I let her go and she flops over on the bed, big smiles!

LHS 10 Year HS Reunion

It’s hard to believe that I graduated from high school 10 years ago, but its true because Saturday night was my 10-year HS reunion.

After we dropped Kendal off at Mimi & Papa Jack’s, Bobby and I met up with a bunch of people at Amigos for some margaritas to kick off the shindig. The reunion was held at the RDV, and it was a really nice event. Joane was even able to track down past principals and teachers to send their well-wishes to us. Since I really don’t keep in touch with anyone other than Melissa, it was neat to see some familiar faces and hear what people were up to. It was also clear that somethings never change…

Kendal’s First Email

The other day while sitting in bed with mom, Jen let Kendal play with her blackberry and she composed her first email to dad.

“Dsqp$opjp” which in baby translates to “I love dad”

The House is DONE!!! August 18, 2008

Nearly 2 years after Mom and Dad leveled their house in Altamonte Springs, they finally moved back in last Thursday. It was a day some of us wondered if it would ever come!!!

It is an understatement to say that the house is GORGEOUS!!! Seriously, Mom did an amazing job with every last detail of the house, which is complete with a nursery for Kendal!

It will be many more months before Mom is unpacked and completely moved back in, but at least they are living there again. It felt really nice driving up to see them at the house the other day.

And for my next trick… August 14, 2008

This morning I saw Kendal roll all the way over for the first time. It is very possible that she has done this before in bed, but I have never seen it. She goes from tummy to back and back to tummy very easily, but I have never seen her go all the way around (back to tummy and then to back) in one motion. She is very active these days, doing lots of new things. Here are some of her favorite things to do:

* Sit up with a little assistance

* Stand with a little assistance

* Lean her head back and arch her back as far as she can when I am holding her

* “Talk”

* Put things in her mouth

* Bat at her toys lying on her playmat

* Watch TV (yes, I know…)

* Ride facing the Front in her Baby Bjorn

* Snuggle with her bear blanket at nap time and bed time

* Suck on her paci!

* Sit in her Bumbo and watch the dogs

* Look out the window in the car

* Sleep for almost 12 hours at night! (except for waking for her paci a few times)

* Take the dogs outside (she loves being outside, but its too hot!)

* Watch the Olympics (no, not really, but I do!)

Its a very full day in the life of Kendal. She is very interested in everything around her. At the grocery store yesterday, she got lots of “ahhhs” as she rode facing front in her Baby Bjorn and took in the world.

Lip-Smacking Good August 13, 2008

Kendal has recently discovered the noises she can make by sucking on and smacking her lips. She seems to enjoy this new feat, and she makes the cutest faces when she does it.
