4 Month Pictures July 30, 2008
A little behind on these, but we finally got around to taking some pictures of Kendal in her chair. The Watch Me Grow page has also been updated.

Bobby was off to NJ this weekend to visit his Grandpa in the hospital, which meant Kendal and I were left to fend for ourselves for 4 days. It was an interesting 4 days, they kind of ran together. Without Bobby coming home at night, the days lasted forever. Kendal was a good girl though, it while we missed Daddy, it wasn’t as bad as I feared it would be. But we are glad Daddy is home!!!
I realize that what I am experiencing is just part of the post-pregnancy thing, but really it is getting a bit ridiculous! Thanks to Audra’s warning, I was prepared to loose more hair than normal after Kendal was born, but no matter the warning this is more than I could have imagined. I thought for a while that I might escape the whole hair loss thing, after all I felt like I continued to loose a normal amount of hair throughout my pregnancy. But no such luck, right about the time Kendal turned 13 weeks old, the shedding began.
And I mean SHEDDING! Kendal is now 18 weeks old, and it hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. I can’t keep up with it. Everyone knows that I have VERY thick hair, and I think this is my punishment for it! I sweep the bathroom floor daily, and it is still always covered in hair. Bobby assures me that it doesn’t bother him, but it makes me crazy. Every time I run my fingers through my hair, they come out with a handful of hair! And according to my reading, it could keep going like this for months!
When I was in college I donated 13 inches of my hair to Locks of Love, and my cousins JillyAnne and Jacy donate every couple of years. I think Locks of Love is missing the boat – they should ask new moms to donate the hair they shed. Seriously, I could sweep it up and save it – there really is THAT much. Good thing my hair was think to start…
After playdate, Kendal had time for a quick nap, and then it was off to the doctor for her 4-month checkup and shots. The checkup went fine. Kendal has not had any more problems since last week, and she seems totally healthy. She currently weights 15 lbs 4 oz and is 26 inches long! She is in the 90% for height and 75-90th for weight. She got all of her shots at this check up. We decided not to break them up this time, as expected she screamed. All in all it was a good check up.
Kendal hosted her first play date on Wednesday, and it was lots of fun! The Magnolia Moms came over, and Daddy picked up lunch for everyone from TooJays. It was lots of fun!
On Tuesday, I went back to work for the first time. Even though it was only a 1/2 day, I missed Kendal TONS! It was nice to see everyone, and I was actually quite productive for the short time I was there, but it was strange at the same time. The plan is to work one day a week on Tuesdays for now. Mimi (my mom) will watch Kendal, which she is very happy to do.
Before work, Kendal and I went to a play date at Megan’s house. We had a nice time and met more Mommies and little babies.
Tuesday was also Uncle Bryan’s birthday. Happy Birthday Uncle Bry!
Wednesday started off normal enough, Kendal and I overslept and started the morning with a late breakfast for Kendal. After she ate, the stress started.
Kendal spit up blood! Seriously, I caught it all on a burp cloth. (I’ll save you from the photo.)
So, obviously we went straight into the doctor. Dr. Alber was great about the whole thing, but since there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with K (other than spitting up blood of course), he could only chalk it up to some fluky thing. He gave a number of things it could be, but she would be in obvious pain. So, the simple suggestion about the most likely cause is me. More likely than not, she probably got some blood from me in her milk and just happened to spit up (like she always does). “No offense,” the doctor said. “We’d rather it be from you.” None taken doc! Me too!
So, we head home and Mommy’s heart is starting to slow down. After some lunch (with no bloody spit up), time for a nap.
45 mins into the nap I hear a beep… “Was that…” I check on the baby and she seems fine. A few minutes later (back on the couch), I hear it again, “beep.” This time I am sure, and I fly into K’s room. This time I rub her back, she wiggles and I breathe a sigh of relief (sort of). I stand there watching for a few minutes and it happens again, a few more minutes pass and it happens a 4th time. Now, I am worried.
So, back to the couch, clutching my monitor I start Goggling the baby monitor (by the way, in case you don’t know what this mysterious beep that is freaking me out is, it is the warning beep that the AngelCare monitor has not detected any movement from the baby in 20 seconds. In other words, it hasn’t detected her breathing in 20 seconds. You get 1 warning beep and if no movement a full blown alarm. So far, each time it has beeped, she has moved and reset it. So, is she not breathing or is it malfunctioning?). I sit down with my friend Google and BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!!
FULL BLOWN ALARM!!!!!
I run back to Kendal’s side (by now the alarm has stopped) and there she is sucking on her paci. By now I am crying, so I call Bobby and he agrees to come home early. I got back to Goggle and find many posts about false alarms, especially if the baby has scooted to the conner (which she had). A big thunder clap wakes K up, and I take the opportunity to move her back to the middle for the rest of her nap, which goes by with no more alarms. Chalk it up to a false alarm.
Thursday, I wake up with a migraine. Probably a result of all of the stress. So, Kendal and I spend the day in bed. By the time Daddy comes home, the pain has dulled and Kendal and I venture out to the family room for dinner. After dinner, Bobby was in the other room, I was sitting on the couch and Kendal was in her swing when I hear her wheezing!!! Yes, wheezing – very distinctive! I scream for Bobby and we sit there listening to her wheeze.
I grab the phone and call the late night clinic. At 7:45, we are on our way to the doctor. Of course, by the time we arrive at the doctor, she has stopped. The doctor checks her out and she seems to be fine. The only conclustion is that she might be coming down with a little cold or something. I feel a little better, but not much. I stayed up till 1 am listening to K breathe…
This morning she is doing it again. She goes in and out of periods of wheezing. But she still doesnt appear to really be struggling, she is still babbling away – just wheezing to suck in her breath. Since there is really no change, I don’t think we will rush to the doctor right now, but I did video her wheezing in case I decide to take her. This time I will have something to show the doctor.
I feel like a crazy mom. But I swear up till now, she has been a picture perfect healthy baby. So, this is very stressful. Since I am asthmatic, I know what it is like to have trouble breathing so I just feel so awful for her. Poor K!
