Mom and Kendal March 22, 2008
Jen was not quite feeling up for pictures yesterday, but today is feeling much better. So here she is, the proud new mama.
Jen was not quite feeling up for pictures yesterday, but today is feeling much better. So here she is, the proud new mama.
We knew that her due date was fast approaching, but we were still surprised to learn at Jen’s 38 week appointment (she was almost 39 weeks at this point) that she was already in active labor. She had been having braxton hicks for weeks, but we had not realized she was this far along. Dr. Carducci told us to go have lunch and take care of whatever last minute items we had, and to head to the hospital after that. As a bonus, Dr. Carducci was on-call that night, and would be able to deliver Kendal.
We headed to Winnie-Palmer at 4:00 and waiting in triage for about an hour before Jen was taken back to get checked. After they confirmed how far along she was and that her contractions where in the 5-10 minute range, they admitted Jen for Labor and Delivery. Due to waiting for a shift change of nurses at 7, we were not taken up to the delivery room until around 7:30. We met our labor nurse, Malory, who was an amazing help (like everyone at Winnie Palmer) and things got going. Malory stayed by our side the entire time and at 2:28 am March 21st, Kendal was born. She weighed 7.8 lbs, measured 20.5″ and had all 10 fingers and toes. I was greatly relieved that she was in fact a girl, which had been my fear the last several months she would arrive as a boy.
At about 4:30 am, the three of us were moved to our recovery room. As mom got settled, I went to watch Kendal’s first bath. Jen and I managed to finally catch about an hour of sleep at 9:00 am, and as I write this it is the only sleep we have gotten.
Jen, Kendal and I are all doing well and will be at Winnie Palmer until Sunday morning. Thank you very much to everyone who has called and sent emails. It means a lot to us.
Here are a few photos I have taken, but you can be sure there will be many more to come.
We had another Dr appt today, and everything still looks great. But since it has been 17 days since they told me “any day now,” Bobby & I are growing impatient. Oh well! At least everyone is healthy!
15 days till she is due! Will keep you posted…
The 3rd baby shower was thrown on Saturday, March 9 by my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. It was held at Panera Bread and it was all family (or close enough to be called family). It was fun, even the boys were included, and Kendal held out long enough so I could go too!
My sister-in-law, Jenn was in town with her family for the week at Disney so she, John, Jordan and Ethan all got to come to the shower. That made it pretty special since they live in Boston and we were able to coordinate all of them coming!
Poor Grandma woke up sick that morning so she wasn’t able to come as planned and we missed her!
We now offically have everything we can think of for little Kendal! The pictures below are from my mom, I am sure we will have more to add from Bobby’s Dad soon!
Mrs. Goggin sent me links to the photos she took at my shower, and I thought I would add them since she got some different pictures than Mom. Thanks Mrs. Goggin!!!

At my next OB appt on Tuesday, March 4 we learned that I am still progressing along. At this point I am 3-4 (almost 4) cm dilated and 70% effaced. So, more than I was a week ago, but still no Kendal.
Last week, I was so freaked out because this whole time I have had it in my head that she would come late (like I did). So, I was mentally prepared to carry till 41 weeks. Now, that I have gotten over my shock, I am ready for Kendal to come already!
Next OB appt is Friday, March 14. So, we will see where I am at that point (if I make it there!).
Lori & RJ were our Lamaze partners and at 38 weeks, Lori was induced on Sunday, March 2. After only 4 1/2 hours, Morgan Amber Murray was born. Bobby and I visited the Murray’s on Monday night and everyone was doing great! RJ is such a proud poppa, and Lori assures me that labor wasn’t as bad as we thought and I will do fine!

My second baby shower was thrown on Saturday, March 1 at Lindsay’s house by Mom and my sister. Lindsay invited all of my girlfriends to this shower, and we had a great turn out.
It was a neat shower because there were friends from elementary school (Audrey Fraizier Perrott), friends from college (including my roommates, Stefanie and Audra, who came in from out of town), lots of THETAS and people I have known only a few month but have already gotten very close to (Deborah, Lori & Jaclyn). I think there were 21 women total in attendance, and I LOVED seeing all of those friends from different aspects of my life together in one place!!!!
My sister’s house looked super cute, all done up in pink! And I think everyone had a great time. Once again, little Kendal made out like a little bandit as my friends were overly generous with their love and gifts for our baby girl.
We played a couple of cute games at the shower. First up, Lindsay asked everyone to bring diapers for Kendal in varying sizes and I drew a name for a winner. Kelly Burrington won a basket of Bath and Body Works.
Then Lindsay had this plastic “ribbon” (it was like caution tape) that said “How big is Mommy, How Big is Baby.” Each person was to cut off a strip that they thought would fit around my belly. I laughed so hard during this. Some people (like Emily) apparently thought I was huge! I think Lori and I both could have fit in some of the strips with room to spare. Ultimately, Lori, Audrey and Mandy were the closest with Mandy taking the prize dead on! Check out the pictures of everyone trying their ribbon around me!
Finally, Lindsay had everyone guess how big I was when I was born. Michelle Glass was closest by an oz! I was 8.4 lbs when I was born. (I am hoping Kendal is in the 7lbs range when she arrives!)
While I opened the gifts, Shirley’s little girl Ariani (who is almost 3) was my personal helper! She helped hand me gifts and open them. While she was shy at first, by the end she was so into opening the gifts I barley had time to see them!! It was too cute! Thanks for the help Ari!
I am SO glad little Kendal didn’t come too early yet because I would have hated to miss this special time. Thanks to everyone who came from near and far!!!
