Painting…. Ugh December 30, 2007Print This Post

Filed under: General — bob @ 11:53 pm

I can officially say I don’t like to paint.  Prior to this project, I had only painted two single walls in my life.  This is hopefully the last room I will ever have to paint.  The whole thing was just a long process. Kendal, if you read this one day, remember what I did for you :) .

Picking out paint colors as Jen wrote about earlier was a long process in itself, as the paint colors we brought home from Lowes looked nothing like they were supposed to. There is a picture below of the samples on the wall.  Both of the first two were suppose to be in the “tan” family of colors, and the first one came out coral, and the second came out “elephant gray”.

Overall, the project took an entire day.  I’m very happy with how it came out (and fortunately Jen was too, but good thing as it was not going to get changed), and I’m glad I did it myself.

The Nursery!!! December 29, 2007Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 6:17 pm

Much progress has been made in the nursery today. Lindsay & Bryan came over first thing this morning to pick up the furniture, and Bobby and I picked paint colors!

What a chore picking out paint colors turned out to be. Our first stop was at Lowes where we bought all of the necessary supplies and purchased 2 sample paints. Armed with my fabric swatches, we were sure one of these colors would be perfect. Once we got home, Bobby painted a couple of swatches on the wall. EWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!  One turned out Coral and the other Elephant Gray!!! They were supposed to be in the tan family!

So, back to Lowes we headed. On our way to Lowes, Bobby realized there was a Sherwin Williams much closer, so we opted to stop there. Again, with fabric swatches in hand, we checked out paint colors. Once again, we settled on 2 samples. (Bonus – SW was having a paint sale!) This time, we were sure one would be a winner.

Almost as soon as the paint went on the wall, Bobby was sure either color would be great. And he was right. One is more of a sandy/tan color (Whole Wheat) and the other a richer brown (Latte) color. After staring at the patches of painted wall for the better part of an hour, I went next door to ask Carolyn for her opinion.

Unfortunately, Carolyn was as torn as we were! But she made some excellent points. (Thank you Carolyn!) In the end, we decided to go with the “safer” choice and stick with the Whole Wheat. Since we picked dark cinnamon furniture, I was concerned about the lack of contrast with the deeper walls. But we are considering possibly using the Latte elsewhere in the house because we do love the color.

So at 4:30, Bobby was off to the paint store (again) to purchase the chosen color. Paint purchased, he is currently pulling everything that is left in the room out in preparation to paint. I think tomorrow will be painting day!

Oh – and I forgot to post… The other day, Bobby and I went to order the nursery chair. When we walked in, there was our hamper ready to be picked up! (Mom & Dad purchased it with the bedding for us!) I was SO excited to take it home. It is the first piece of furniture/bedding stuff and it looks PERFECT! So, the good news is that we were able to hold it up to all paint choices for color combos! I do hope Kendal likes Pink!

Fancy Feet Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 5:57 pm

As Christmas day came to a close, Heidi Snyderburn came to visit with us at Mom and Dad’s house. She brought with her these darling booties, which are handmade by a friend of hers. In fact, this friend recently signed an exclusive deal with Neman Marcus to carry her line of Boo Boo Booties! Not avaliable yet in stores – baby Kendal will have fancy feet in these cutie booties.

As always, Heidi regaled the family with her humorous tales and it was a fun evening. Thanks for making time to come see us Heidi!!!

Kendal’s First Blackberry December 27, 2007Print This Post

If anyone knows Jen or myself, they know we don’t go very far without our blackberry in hand.  It was very fitting for Nick (and the Nanton family), a blackberry addict himself (although recently traded in for an iPhone) to get Kendal her very own pink blackberry, which also came with a set of matching pink sunglasses.  Thanks Nick.

Christmas Day December 25, 2007Print This Post

Filed under: Baby's Gifts, General — bob @ 10:54 pm

Jen and I had a very nice, yet tiring (Jen is nearly asleep as I type this at 9:30) Christmas day. We woke up at 8:00 so we could have our own Christmas morning together before the rest of the day began. We headed out at 9:30 to meet up with her parents, sister and husband, so we could have our second Christmas shift with them. At 11:00 her Grandmother, Aunt and Cousin joined us for our third Christmas shift, and finally my parents came over at 12:00 for our fourth and final Christmas shift.

Kendal especially made out well. Papa Jack and Grandma Linda bought Kendal her crib bedding and accessories. Aunt Lindsay and Uncle Bryan also bought Kendal her bouncer, and a nice assortment of clothes. Thanks very much.

It was a great Christmas, and is hard to believe that this time next year we will have a 9-month old baby girl with us. Thanks to everyone for all of the great presents for us and Kendal.

Only 95 days to go…

24 Week Appointment, Furniture and a name! December 13, 2007Print This Post

Filed under: General — bob @ 6:50 pm

Jen had her 24-Week appointment this morning.  These appointments seem to be getting quicker and quicker.  Everything checked out great, and she is progressing (i.e. growing) perfectly.  The baby has been very active, and will likely be some sort of gymnast with all the movement she has been having.  (Or just super fidgety like Mom!) She even manages to tickle Jen now and again with them.  Next appointment at 28-weeks Jen will have to have a 1 hour glucose test. (She has to drink some liquid, wait an hour, and then be tested for diabetes.  Fun, I know) Then we will be having a 3D/4D ultrasound. Yay.

During lunch today, we met up with my parents and her mom to look at nursery furniture.  We are both excited to say the furniture has been ordered, and will be delivered toward the end of January.  Another item off the list :) . (Also Registered for the Bedding too!)

And finally, in more exciting news, last night we shared the name of our new baby girl with both of our families.  Her name is going to be Kendal Jadyn Burg.  Jen and I have been calling her by name past few weeks, but last night decided to make it official.

So, Baby Burg can now be called Kendal.

This weekend Jen and I got a nice surprise when the FedEx man dropped off a package on Saturday.  Thank you very much Brian and Sara for the highchair.  Of course, Jen and I had to open and assemble it immediately. It is now sitting ready in our livng room :) . I’m sure it will get a lot of use over the next few years. Thanks again.

The Nursery – Just Buggy! December 6, 2007Print This Post

Filed under: General — jen @ 6:03 pm

After much debate, on my part, we have finally picked the bedding set for the nursery. I am SOOO in love with it. Since no one carries it in stock in town, I had some fabric swatches sent to me, and it is even prettier in person. Lots of neutral tones accented by Pink!!! And we have decided that we will get the Cinnamon crib and furniture to coordinate.

Everyone knows Bobby and I love to bargain hunt, so we have looked all over for the best price. Cribs 4 Life (off of 436 in Altamonte) has the best price by FAR. So, we will be officially registering for it next week when we register for the furniture. To make thing super confusing, they don’t have ALL of the pieces, so I am also doing an online registry for the pieces they can’t get! But the most important part is that it is perfect!!!

I can’t wait till my sister comes and gets the guest room furniture out of there so I can start painting/decorating!!! (Hint Hint – Liny!)

The bedding set is “Just Buggy” by Glenna Jean!

It was hard to tell if her belly had grown much in the last picture, so we figured we’d update it today.
