Jen and I went for our first registry trip to Babies “R” Us yesterday. We both had been excited to do so leading up to yesterday, but those feelings quickly changed. The lady at the registry counter gave us the quick 5-minute overview of the “process” and what types of items we should be registering for. They even give you a book that has their “recommended essentials” for what to register for. Clearly they are trying to take advantage of the first time parents and have them buy anything and everything. They recommend you to add 200 items to your registery, which they claim to be the “average”. The overwhelmed sensation had started to set in.
Jen and I decided to start in the newborn section, and after a quick look at breast pumps (which I told Jen “Just get the one Lori registered for” since I had no other useful input to add), we decided to add our first item and let her do more research on later. 1 item down, 199 to go.
They came the bottles. This is when Jen and I both had the “dear in headlights” look on our faces. Who had any idea there were so many types of bottles, and how were we to know which ones we were suppose to get . From the look on Jen’s face, I could tell she was having the same thought as I was. “Let’s get out of here.” Knowing that was not an option, we pressed on. After adding a few bottles, bottle sanitizers, warmers (do we really need all this?), then was the pacifiers. Again, lots to choose between. A few scans with the registry gun later, we continued.
The afternoon got somewhat easier as we proceeded and got to the larger items. We test drove several strollers before picking one. It was actually one of the easier things to choose. We ended up registering for 41 items over the three hours we were there. Clearly we will be making several more trips. Fortunately, you can add and delete items from your registry at home, and we have already made additions and deletions.
